Dry Bulk Shipping Sector Shows Positive Trends

Capesize: The week began subdued due to the Lunar New Year holidays in Asia, but major mining companies’ activities in the Pacific boosted sentiment. The Atlantic saw increased activity as the week progressed, with tight tonnage leading to robust fixtures. Despite a decline in activity towards the week’s end, resistance from owners in the Pacific led to a positive finish.

Panamax: The week saw energetic activity in EC South America for March arrivals, with several fixtures achieved. Demand was slower in the north, but all three major loading origins in Asia saw small rate increments, supported by strong demand from the Americas.

Ultramax/Supramax: The Asian market lacked fresh impetus initially due to holidays but saw stronger demand and rates later in the week. A limited fresh inquiry was seen in the Atlantic, with recent gains being driven back. Period cover remained active across various regions.

Handysize: Despite limited activity, pockets of positivity remained, particularly in Europe and the Mediterranean. Brazil saw minimal activity, but improvements were expected. The US Gulf faced pressure due to limited cargo availability, while Asia remained steady despite holidays. Period interest persisted, with fixtures observed in Morocco.
